About the role:
Do you enjoy the challenge of de-escalating complex situations? Are you one of those people who actually enjoys reading legalese and translating it into something understandable for a normal person? Do you have experience writing and applying policies on handling content violations online?
We’re looking for you!
We’re hiring our first dedicated Trust & Safety Specialist, who will ensure the integrity of our platform. A large part of this role will involve handling access claims from landowners and government organizations (many of which are German), and addressing issues such as missing persons, harassment, offensive content, and other police requests. You’ll also develop and enforce trust and safety policies, ensuring fair and consistent application across our community.
What you will do:
- Handle access claims from landowners and government organisations regarding property access.
- Respond promptly to queries and reports on trust and safety issues, including missing persons, harassment, offensive content, nudity, spam, copyright infringement, and police requests.
- Review, update, and develop trust and safety policies and guidelines.
- Ensure consistent and fair enforcement of community guidelines and content moderation policies.
- Resolve issues through actions such as content removal, account suspension, and updating OpenStreetMap or komoot content.
- Create resources to educate users and internal stakeholders on trust and safety best practices.
- Maintain detailed records of incidents, actions taken, and outcomes for accountability and reporting purposes.
- Identify opportunities to enhance trust and safety processes, tools, and policies through data analysis and feedback.
- Proactively assess potential legal risks and collaborate with legal counsel to minimise litigation risks.
Why you will love it:
- Your work will contribute to helping millions of people enjoy lovely outdoor experiences.
- We’ve been a remote-working company since 2017, meaning: We are remote by default, have frameworks and systems in place, and know how to do it well.
- You can work from wherever you want, be it a beach, the mountains, your house, or anywhere else that lies in any time zone between UTC-1 and UTC+3.
- We have your costs covered for your co-working space membership or your work-from-home office setup and the latest devices and equipment to do your best work.
- You’ll become an essential part of our diverse and international team with colleagues based in 20+ countries across Europe.
- 38 paid days off (inclusive public holidays) – you are free to take those days whenever it suits you, including a well-deserved winter holiday break.
- We love seeing people grow. That’s why each team member gets €2,000 and 3 additional days to spend on professional development each year. Classes, conferences, books – your choice!
Requirements:
You’ll be successful in this role if you
- Have 2+ years of experience in a trust and safety, content moderation, or related role within a technology company or online platform.
- Are fluent in both German and English.
- Are familiar with relevant regulations and industry standards, particularly GDPR, data security, and content moderation guidelines.
- Have a background in legal topics, are familiar with legal terminology, and are comfortable looking up laws and regulations (especially in German!).
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex concepts clearly and professionally.
- Demonstrate empathy and emotional intelligence to handle sensitive and challenging situations with care and professionalism, and enjoy the challenge of dealing with these.
- Have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with diverse stakeholders, including users, colleagues, and law enforcement agencies.
- Show adaptability and resilience to navigate evolving trust and safety challenges in the online space.
- Have a strong commitment to integrity, ethics, and maintaining user trust in the platform.
Not sure if you meet all requirements above? Don’t sweat it – if you think you’re the right person anyway, we’d love to hear from you!
Benefits:
