Job Description

Job Summary: Is responsible for direct childcare, appraisal and follow-up of caseload. Prepares health care plans for involved students and supervises the implementation of required health care procedures.

Essential Duties:

* Screens students for health defects, including height, weight, vision, hearing, scoliosis, and kindergarten screenings.
* Administers medication and treatment prescribed by physicians and oversees procedures for office staff to administer medications in the absence of the school nurse.
* Conducts parent conferences and maintains liaison between physicians, parents, and staff.
* Makes recommendations to primary care physician on health needs of individual students.
* Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students requiring nursing intervention, including immunization records and exemptions for religious and medical reasons.
* Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters.
* Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student who has suffered an injury or emergency illness.
* Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures and district policies.
* Implements board policy on exclusion and re-admission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
* Conducts training for students related to impairments, health, and hygiene.
* Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
* Is available to do health-related lesson presentations in classrooms.
* Observe professional ethics and confidentiality.
* Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:

* License from the State of Arkansas to practice as a RN or LPN
